Location Tracking 3B
Today I believe that a lot of good things can come of implanting computer chips into household pets and farm animals. They can let you know where your pet or farm animal is and can monitor the health of these animals as well. However I do not feel it right to implement this idea on children. If I was a parent I could see why they would want the reassurance of always knowing where their child was at all times. Also It would undoubtedly help when the child is lost or kidnapped. Is this our decision? I think its not our decision to tell your children that they need to have a surgery in the off chance that they might get lost or kidnapped. I feel that this is too extreme. They are human beings not animals. What if this idea came out 30 to 40 years ago? I do not think the parents that would support this bill today would have supported back then if they had to be the ones that were tracked all the times. As for putting these chips in elderly people I feel that this is just as wrong. Having someone go through any amount of pain, even if it is a minor surgery without them being ok with it is wrong. My grandmother is showing early signs of dementia and because of that she needs more care and love not to be implanted with a chip so we don't loose track of her. I can agree with having tracking chips in clothing and other items that you can take off with not pain and as needed. Being forced to have a chip in you for any amount of time that tracks where you are is wrong. I would never support a bill of this nature.

I too can see a limited benefit of using this technology on children, however, I feel the risks involved by far out weigh any benefit that would be gained. I also agree that non-invasive technology should be used on those suffering with dementia.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with EJ and Cindy; it seems wrong to implant a child with anything that is not essential to the life of the child. I could see tracking devices in shoes and other outerwear and would support them being used with elderly individuals that had illnesses; but nothing inside the body. I cannot help but think that this notion of implanting tracking devices is being just a little too proactive. As we up the ante to surgically implanting devices, so to will the, medically untrained, kidnappers if they are so keen on doing so.
